MARRIOTT DISCLOSES A DATA BREACH THAT MAY IMPACT OVER 5 MILLION GUESTS

Marriott says a data breach may have exposed the personal information of 5.2 million guests.  According to Marriott, an unexpected amount of guest information may have been accessed using the login credentials of two employees at a franchise property to the application hotels franchised under Marriott’s brand use to help providing services to guests at hotels.

They said that upon the determination of login credentials, they immediately launched an investigation and implemented heightened monitoring.

The information disclosed may have been involved, contact details, loyalty account information, additional personal details such as gender, birthday day and month and company etc., preferences like room and language preferences etc. According to Marriott there is no reason to believe that payment data were stolen.

This marks Marriott’s second data breach in recent years, following a breach in 2018.
