ICO Imposes Fines Companies due to Over Predatory Marketing Calls to Target Elderly, Vulnerable People

Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Hukuku

The Information Commissioner’s Office (“ICO”) has published a press release that ICO unwanted imposed fines totalling £405,000 to five companies responsible for over 750,000 unwanted marketing calls targeted at older, vulnerable people.

The ICO investigated companies that were calling people to sell insurance products or services for white goods and other large household appliances, such as televisions, washing machines and fridges.

Many of the complainants said that the people received the calls were vulnerable, with some having been suffering with dementia or other underlying health conditions.

The ICO found that the companies were deliberately targeting older people by buying marketing data lists from third parties, specifically asking for personal information about people who are aged 60 and over, homeowners and with landline numbers.

The evidence demonstrate that companies were either working together or using the same marketing list to target these people.

End of the investigation

  • Domestic Support Ltd is fined £80,000,
  • Home Sure Solution Ltd is fined £100,000,
  • Seaview Brokers Ltd is fined £15,000,
  • UK Appliance Cover Ltd is fined £100,000,
  • UK Platinum Home Care Services Ltd UK Platinium Home Care Services Ltd is fined £110,000,
