The ICO Launches Second Consultation on the Draft Data Protection and Journalism Code
The Information Commissioner’s Office (‘Office/ICO’) has launched a second consultation on a draft code of practice about using personal data for journalism (‘the code’). The ICO welcomes inquiries from anybody with an interest, including those working in the media or using personal information for reporting, including media organizations, journalists, photographers, and private investigators.
The code offers step-by-step instructions on how to abide by legal standards for data protection and sound judgment when using personal data for journalism.
Following the first consultation that ended in January 2022, the ICO considered the feedback received from the media industry and other stakeholders, and significantly reduced the length and overall complexity of the code.
Although the focus of this consultation is the code, ICO also wants an opinion on supporting reference notes for code, the code 'at a glance', 10 data protection tips for day-to-day journalism, updated impact assessment.
You can submit responses through the ICO website by 16 November 2022.
