NORWEGIAN DPA IMPOSES FINE ON THE NORWEGIAN PUBLIC ROADS ADMINISTRATION

21.09.2020

The Norwegian Data Protection Authority (“DPA”) has imposed fine on the Norwegian Public Roads Administration due to incompatibility of processing purpose with the originally stated purposes.

In the present case, the Road Administration has processed extensive personal data a by using fixed road cameras to monitor contract parties, employees, subvendors and the subvendors’ employees. The usage of such photos is to make possible immediate security measures however the Administration used them for documenting breaches of contract several months after the incidents took place which is incompatible with the original purpose.

In this sense, the DPA has issued the Norwegian Public Roads Administration a fine of 37,400 EUR with emphasising that the new usage is at considerable disadvantage to the contract parties and its employees and it is conflict with how the contract parties can expect the personal data to be used.
