Turkish Advertisement Board Imposes Various Administrative Fines Regarding Deceptive Advertisements and Activities
As a result of a meeting numbered 339 held by the Turkish Advertisement Board ("Board") on 14 November 2023, it was decided to impose administrative sanctions on advertisements and activities that attempt to mislead, deceive, and abuse the lack of information of consumers.
According to the said decision, a total administrative fine of 2.7 million Turkish Liras was imposed on 16 discount sale files, including the advertisements on "November Discounts".
According to the Board's decisions;
- The Board closely monitors the discount sales campaigns announced in November under the name of "Efsane November Discounts", in which various discounts on products are announced. Accordingly, it has been decided to impose administrative sanctions on discount sale advertisements that mislead consumers and create the perception that there is a higher discount than there actually is, although in reality there is no discount.
- In this context, the Board decided to impose a total administrative fine of 2.7 million Turkish Liras for 16 discount sales files.
As a result, in the first 11 months of the year, the Board made evaluations on a total of 1,838 files and decided to impose a total administrative fine of 92.5 Million Turkish Liras on 1,623 files.
