ICTA Decision Lifts Ban On Advertising On Twitter/X For Turkish Residents
The Decision of the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (‘ICTA’) dated 22.05.2024 and numbered 29529 on the Abolition of the Decision on the Prohibition of Advertising to X (‘Decision’) was published in the Official Gazette dated 24.05.2024 and numbered 32555.
Previously, with the ICTA Decision dated 19.07.2023 and numbered 39225, a ban on advertising was imposed on X Corp. (Twitter/X), i.e. Twitter, Inc., which did not appoint a representative within the period stipulated by the legislation, for taxpayers who are natural persons and legal entities residing in Turkey.
With the establishment of the X Istanbul Representative Office after the advertising ban, the advertising ban was lifted for Twitter/X, which fulfilled its obligation to appoint and notify a representative in accordance with Law No. 5651 of 4 May 2007 on the Regulation of Publications on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed through Such Publications ("Internet Law").
Finally, we would like to point out that with the amendment, there is no longer any obstacle for taxpayer and legal entities resident in Turkey to advertise.
