EDPB’s Urgent Binding Decision on the Processing of Personal Data for Behavioral Advertising by Meta

On October 27, 2023, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) adopted an Urgent Binding Decision (“Decision”) on the processing of personal data for behavioral advertising by Meta.

In recent weeks, the EDPB adopted a decision instructing the Irish (IE) DPA, as the lead supervisory authority (LSA), to take final measures within two weeks concerning Meta Ireland Limited (Meta IE) and to impose a ban on the processing of personal data for advertising across the entire European Economic Area (EEA).

The processing ban will enter into force one week after IE SA notifies the controller of the final measures.

As reported on 30/10, the EDPB is considering Meta's proposal to rely on a consensual approach as the legal basis.
