Advertisement Board Publishes 2024 Activity Report

The Advertisement Board ("Board") had published the 2024  Activity Report ("Report") on the official website of the Ministry of Trade on 06.01.2025.

The Report is summarized as follow;

  • It includes examples on various subjects such as advertisement control, consumer rights, deceptive commercial practices and sectoral regulations.
  • In the Board's 2024 decisions, the following issues attracted attention:
    • Greenwashing and unsubstantiated environmental claims
    • Dark (commercial) patterns,
    • Unapproved memberships, transferred personal data
    • Shadow pricing, deceptive discounts
    • Prohibited advertisements
  • In 2024, the Board reviewed 22,299 applications. Of these, 17,652 were determined at the preliminary examination stage not to require further examination. The remaining 1,917 files were placed on the Board's agenda, and 1,705 of these files were found to be in breach of the legislation, resulting in a breach rate of 89%
  • Regarding 1,030 adverts found to be in breach of the legislation:
    • A suspension penalty was imposed on 1,030 adverts,
    • Both an administrative fine and suspension penalty were applied to 598 adverts,
    • A provisional suspension penalty was imposed on 4 adverts.
  • The Board imposed administrative fines totaling TL 277,664,783.00, comprising TL 269,276,989.00 on advertisers and TL 8,387,794.00 on media organizations.
