FINES TOTALLING £480,000 FROM ICO ABOUT NUISANCE MARKETING CALLS

The Information Commissioner’s Office (“ICO”) announced on 27.01.2021 that the fines totalling £480,000 have been imposed on four separate companies for making unlawful calls to numbers registered with the Telephone Preference Service (“TPS”).
Although it is against the law to make marketing calls to numbers that have been registered with the TPS for more than 28 days, unless people have provided consent, these four companies kept making illegal calls to the numbers.
These companies are:
i. Chameleon Marketing (H.I) Ltd from Leeds (administrative fine of £100,000),
ii. Rancom Security Limited based in Sutton Coldfield (administrative fine of £110,000),
iii. Repair & Assure Limited from Redhill (administrative fine of £180,000) and
iv. Solar Style Solutions Limited in Stockton on Tees (administrative fine of £80,000)
In total, the four company have made 2.4. million illegal nuisance calls and, as a result, over 250 complaints have been made to the ICO and the TPS.
