13.05.2019
The Conference of European Data Protection Authorities has been organised annually since 1991. The aim of the conference is to strength cooperation between Data Protection Authorities and to exchange on a variety of common issues that they are facing currently to establish a stable and internationally recognized framework for data protection and privacy.
The conference expanded over the years with old and new members; now it contains more than 30 Data Protection Authorities. According to latest Resolution of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities “Rules and Procedures of the Conference of European Data Protection Authorities” adopted in Limassol, 27-28 April 2017[1], entities that wish to be accredited as Members of the conference must submit their application to the Accreditation Committee[2].
After adopting Law on the Protection of Personal Data in 2016, Turkey pay special emphasis on privacy and data protection. Now the Turkish Data Protection Authority (“Authority”) takes further steps to function better in data protection and privacy premises. Thus, the Authority announced that it applied on 04.01.2018 to participate in 2019 conference as a step to fullfill this aim. On 10.05.2019, the Authority stated that it has been accepted as an accredited member to the conference in 2019.[3]
